Ningura Naparrula
Ningura recently achieved international acclaim when she and a group of Pintupi artists were commissioned to paint murals in the Musee du Quai Branley in Paris which opened in early 2006. Born c. 1938 at Watulka, south of the Kiwirrkura Community near Alice Springs, Ningura's husband is the renowned Pintupi artist Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi, one of the founders of the Papunya Tula art community. Ningura's paintings focus on the travels and ritual customs of her female ancestors and her work is characterised by strong linear compositions created with heavy layers of acrylic paint. Ningura has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally and her work is represented in art collections across Australia.
