Pantjiya Nungurrayi
Pantjiya is an established Papunya Tula artist whose work has been exhibited
across Australia and also appears in the National Gallery of Victoria,
Melbourne.
Born c.1936 in Kiwirrkurra, Western Australia, she was married to the late
artist George Maxwell Jangala. In 1986, she joined a developing group of
Pintupi women artists and started painting for the Papunya Tula art
community. Like the works of many of her contemporaries, Pantjiya uses a
very restricted palate, primarily black and white with some yellow ochre to
highlight the symbols and patterns in her compositions.
