Rosemary Petyarre

Like her sister, Jeannie Petyarre, Rosemary is one of a group of senior Anmatyerre women artists at the forefront of the Utopia desert art movement. Born c.1940, Rosemary's artistic career began when she became involved in batik-making in Utopia. She was selected to join a small group of artists who travelled to Indonesia to learn the various techniques used in creating batiks. It was only in 1998 after participating in a summer project sponsored by the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association that Rosemary spread her wings and started painting with acrylics on canvas. Since then, her paintings have featured in exhibitions in Australia, Europe and the United States and her work is now highly collectible.
